The School of the Built and Natural Environment, Glasgow Caledonian University,
is the largest Built Environment department in Scotland. Within the past three
years, funded research projects led by the School include a £137K EPSRC
grant as well as an additional linked EPSRC project studentship; a £340K
EPSRC/DETR grant to investigate the Private Finance Initiative; a £220K
EPSRC/DETR grant in the field of ‘Value Management’; £280K
EPSRC grant for research in Moisture Prediction, £220K on Teaching Company
Schemes and £350K from the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council
(SHEFC) to establish the Centre for Advanced Built Environment Research. It
has a very strong track record in research completion, supervision and management.
Professor Charles Egbu is currently Professor of Construction and Project Management
at Glasgow Caledonian University. Obtained his PhD in Construction Management
in 1994 from the University of Salford. Previously was A Reader of Construction
and Project Management at Leeds Metropolitan University, worked as a Senior
Research Fellow and a Lecturer at the University College London and as a Project
Manager and Senior Consultant at the Building Research Establishment. He also
worked briefly in the industry as a Contractor’s Quantity Surveyor for
a large construction company. He is a corporate member of the Chartered Institute
of Building (MCIOB) and the Association for Project Management (MAPM). Currently
a grant holder for the EPSRC (GR/N01323 - £100K) research on "The
exploitation of IT for improved teamworking in design and construction teams".
Recently completed an internally supported research from Leeds Metropolitan
University on "Innovation and Knowledge Management in Diverse Project
Management Environments". He was also involved in the recently completed
European Social Fund (ESF) project on "Knowledge Management Exchange".
He also participated in the ESRC (L125251060, £125,548; 1998) project
on "Simulator for Innovation in Construction. He has contributed over
100 publications in various international journals and conferences, with many
relating to Innovation and Knowledge Management in construction and diverse
project management environments. He is a visiting Fellow to the Management,
Knowledge and Innovation Research Unit (MKIRU) of the Open University Business
School. He is also a member of the W102 (Information and Knowledge Management
in Building) and TG47 (Innovation and Knowledge Broker) groups of the International
Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB).
