Seminar - Applying Knowledge Management in Construction

On 20 April 2004, Professor David Boyd from UCE and Mr Paul Dockerill from William Sapcote & Sons Ltd gave a presentation on our research project at a seminar that was held at the headquarter of CIOB in Ascot. The seminar was titled “Applying Knowledge Management in Construction”. Other presenters included Dr Judy Payne from Hemdean Consulting and Dr Das Mootanah from CIRIA. About 30 delegates from the construction industry and academia attended the seminar.

In their presentation, Professor Boyd introduced the process and the theories used in the research project. Mr. Dockerill presented some examples of the lessons learned from the research. Delegates showed great interests in this new approach to knowledge management and believed it is effective to SMEs.

The seminar was initiated from a letter Mr. Dockerill had written to the Chief Executive of CIOB about our research project. The CIOB agreed that such a seminar would speed up the dissemination of knowledge management research in construction industry and eventually improve the performance of the industry.
